Learn the principles that allow airplanes to take flight and stay airborne. This module dives into the four forces of flight and explores their interactions to maintain stability and maneuverability. Discover how various airplane control surfaces work together to enable precise control over pitch, roll, and yaw.

  • Forces:  Explore the physics of flight, including how lift balances weight and how thrust counteracts drag.
  • Controls:  Learn the function and effect of ailerons, elevators, and rudders in controlling the aircraft’s movement.

Understand the mechanical and operational components that keep an airplane airworthy and legally flyable. This module breaks down the workings of piston engines and the critical systems, including oil, fuel, electrical, and vacuum systems. You will also learn how to evaluate airworthiness compliance, conduct preflight inspections, and read important aircraft documentation. 

  • Systems: Gain insight into monitoring and troubleshooting oil, fuel, electrical, and vacuum systems. 
  • Airworthiness: Learn how to use the AVIATE checklist, inspect maintenance records, and verify required FAA compliance. 

Master the flight instruments you’ll rely on in the cockpit for situational awareness, navigation, and flight safety. This module provides an in-depth examination of both pitot-static and gyroscopic systems, including their potential failure modes. We dive into the functionality and interpretation of key instruments, including the airspeed indicator, attitude indicator, and vertical speed indicator.

  • Pitot-Static:  Understand how the airspeed indicator, altimeter, and vertical speed indicator function.
  • Gyroscopic:  Learn how gyroscopic instruments like the attitude indicator and heading indicator provide critical orientation cues.

Navigate the complexities of both the airport environment and controlled/uncontrolled airspaces with clarity and accuracy. From decoding runway markings and taxiway signage to understanding the specific requirements of Class A through G airspace, this module prepares you to operate in accordance with FAA regulations.

  • Airport:  Learn how to identify airport signs, interpret lighting systems, and execute proper runway entry and exit procedures.
  • Airspace:  Understand how to operate within different airspace classifications and navigate special use airspace.

Achieve proficiency in aviation communication and radio protocols to interact seamlessly with Air Traffic Control (ATC). This module helps you master standard aviation phraseology, proper readback techniques, and how to respond to unexpected instructions.

  • Phraseology: Learn standard callouts for every phase of flight, including taxi, takeoff, entering the traffic pattern, and landing.
  • ATC Services: Become familiar with key systems, such as Flight Following and ATIS, and with procedures for handling CTAF communications.

Develop a solid understanding of weather formation and its direct impact on aviation. This module equips you with knowledge of how the atmosphere, air masses, and weather fronts interact to create flight conditions.

  • Atmosphere:  Understand how pressure, temperature, and humidity work together to shape weather systems.
  • Hazards: Identify and mitigate risks associated with dangerous conditions like turbulence, icing, and reduced visibility.

Learn how to access reliable weather information for preflight planning and in-flight decision-making. This module provides instruction on analyzing METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, and SIGMETs and ensures you know what questions to ask during preflight briefings. You’ll be confident in obtaining and interpreting the data you need for safe operations.

  • Products:  Familiarize yourself with aviation-specific weather reports and tools.
  • Briefings:  Learn to ask the right questions during preflight weather briefings to ensure a thorough understanding.

Pilots must exercise impeccable judgment and comply with all FAA legal requirements. In this module, you’ll learn Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) strategies, including risk assessment tools and models like DECIDE, to ensure safe and sound in-flight choices. Additionally, gain a thorough understanding of FAA regulations covered in FAR Parts 61 and 91.

  • ADM:  Learn to recognize and mitigate risk while addressing hazardous attitudes.
  • Regulations: Understand certification processes, operational rules, and regulatory compliance required for flight.

Learn how to calculate aircraft weight and balance to ensure safe loading and accurate performance predictions. From creating weight-and-balance reports to interpreting Performance Operating Handbook (POH) charts for takeoff, climb, and landing, this module equips you with essential knowledge to maximize safety and efficiency throughout every phase of flight.

  • Weight & Balance:  Understand CG limits, compute takeoff weight, and distribute loads safely.
  • Performance: Analyze factors such as density altitude and how it affects takeoff distance, climb rates, and landing performance.

Master the interpretation of sectional charts used in Visual Flight Rules (VFR) navigation. This module teaches you to identify key symbology on charts, including airspace classifications, obstacles, navigation aids, and special-use areas, so you can navigate safely.

  • Symbols:  Decode chart symbology and use it to assess airports, terrain, and restricted zones.
  • Navigation:  Measure courses, calculate distances, and incorporate magnetic variation into planning.

Plan and execute a seamless VFR cross-country flight with this comprehensive module. From selecting routes and identifying checkpoints to calculating winds and time en route, you’ll learn everything you need to prepare for longer journeys in the air.

  • Planning: Create a complete route, compute fuel needs, and document your flight plan step by step.
  • Logistics: Learn procedures for filing a flight plan and planning alternate airports.

Develop mastery of traditional and modern navigation aids, including VOR navigation systems, GPS, and pilotage techniques. This module ensures you’re equipped for precision en-route navigation and terminal arrival, regardless of the tools at your disposal.

  • Ground-Based Systems:  Gain hands-on experience interpreting VOR radials and CDIs for accurate navigation.
  • Modern Tools:  Leverage GPS and moving maps while cross-checking with reliable pilotage and dead reckoning techniques.

Fuel surcharges may apply depending on current fuel prices. Published package prices, if any, are provided as estimates only; actual training costs will vary based on student proficiency, scheduling, weather, and FAA minimum requirements. Additional flight or ground instruction beyond minimums will be billed at the standard hourly rate. Payment is due at the time of service unless prior arrangements have been approved in writing. Unused funds on account are refundable, less any outstanding balances or fees.
